Walk in my Shoes – B
The ‘Walk in my Shoes’ initiative is an awareness-raising and education campaign of St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services. They work to promote positive mental health, tackle mental health stigma, and to change how people, particularly young people, think about mental health.
Throughout the year they offer free resources for primary and secondary school teachers to use in the classroom; free resources for parents/guardians; free resources for young people; and they run a range of initiatives to promote youth mental health, such as Mission Possible school achievement awards, Frame of Mind short film competition, Transition year programme, #MindYourSelfie Day, WIMS Live, WIMS FM, Funky Shoe Day and Ways to Wellbeing.
WIMS have also developed a School Portal which enables teachers to capture and share the work they are doing to promote mental health in their classrooms and school communities with each other.
Furthermore, they organise information days for Teachers and school staff which cover a broad range of topic related to mental health in the classroom. Their most recent information day covered: How to create a mentally healthy school and why this is so important; LGBT+, Gender and mental health; Anxiety and young people; Emotional and behavioural issues in the classroom; How and why it is important to practice self-care.
