Greek Institutional Framework (Ministry of Education) for psychological and mental support in schools
The institution of Centers for Interdisciplinary Evaluation, Counseling and Support (ΚΕΔΑΣΥ) introduced by Law 4823/2021 (Articles 11 – 15, pp 8942-8947) aims at supporting – at regional level – students, schools, workshops in order to ensure equal access in education and to protect psychosocial wellbeing. More specifically, they investigate and assess educational and psychosocial needs, develop and implement projects of educational and psychosocial interventions, support the overall work of school units, inform and train the members of school communities. Furthermore, the same Law (Article 17, pp 8947-8949), dectates the operation of School Networks for Educational Support . School Psychologists and Social Workers, in cooperation with these Centers, collaborate with local schools providing psychosocial support, information, guidance and orientation in order tο empower the school community. The role of professionals who staff the Centers is to detect, inform, support and mediate. Furthermore, the institution aims at developing and implementing programs of body and psycho-emotional health and protection of students.
Centers for Interdisciplinary Evaluation, Counseling and Support are staffed with permanent personnel, but every school year the Ministry of Education recruits non-permanent Psychologists and Social Workers to support the work of institutions referred to above.
