‘Nurturing the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people during crises’ UNESCO Education Sector
This Issue note highlights the necessity for the families and communities to build vital coping skills and emotional resilience during Covid-19 pandemic crisis, or any crisis. Building social and emotional learning (SEL) skills can enable children and young people to address stressful situations. The role of teachers is crucial. The need therefore arises for policy makers and government institutions to prioritize teacher training in SEL, to promote the mainstreaming of SEL throughout education at all levels, include SEL in pre and in-service teacher education and professional development programmes.
This note provides key messages and practical tips for designing policy and programmatic interventions useful both for government institutions and for school, young people, teachers and parents.
